From Bad to Worse
Just a short entry, since I don’t have too much to discuss today.
Today my great uncle Kenny goes under the knife for a double bypass. That’s gonna be fun. Originally they were just going to insert a stint, but when they went in, they found the blockage was at a Y in the artery so they had to do open heart surgery instead. To make it better, his birthday is on Thursday. He’s very lucky he didn’t have a heart attack since the doctors say two arteries have 95% blockage. So my thoughts are with him today. So like I said, not much to discuss today since I’m too woried to write something interesting to anyone:P
But just for the sake of normalcy, we shall still have a quiz of the day….
Quiz of the Day! How large was the largest hailstone ever officially measured and where did it fall? Bonus unrelated question: What auto maker invented, and was the first to include as standard equipment, the three point safety harness?
The final quiz question is in relation to the following facts below:
Number One in the list of the 20 deadliest single tornadoes ever to strike the US, is the infamous “Tri-State Twister” of Mar 18, 1925. With a maximum width of 1200 yards, this single twister roared through three states for a distance of 219 miles. It has been said that the tri state tornado was the worst tornado disaster in North American History as it raced 219 miles in four hours destroying nine towns (two of them completely) and hundreds of farms. It killed 695 people and injured over 2,000. Since it was 1925, warning was little to none. Not like today where we have advanced radar and other tracking systems to warn us well in advance of the dangers. Regardless no tornado before or since has ever matched the size, strength, and distance of this single devastating twister.
So the question is: What three states did this tornado cross? Get out your thinking caps!

Good jorb Zach! You got one of the three questions right!
Here is some more about the tri-state twister: The tornado developed at about 1pm outside Ellington, Missouri. It may well have had a foward speed of 73mph and was so wide, that no discernable funnel could be seen. Those who saw it reported that the tornado was a rolling black mass of cloud one mile in diameter. A witness in Illinois observed that the tornado resembled “a fog rolling” toward him.
In the town of Murphysboro, Illinois, 234 people lost their lives, probably the single worst death toll for one town or city in US history. The nearby village of Gorham lost every single structure and half of it’s residents. In Indiana, along a 10-mile stretch of the tornado’s path, 85 farms were wiped out. The rural death toll of 65 in Illinois was unprecedented. On the same day, eight other tornadoes in Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky took another 52 lives, bringing the day’s toll to 747.
Yep, it was horrible. But Zach on the other hand, he is un-horrible, for he is teh winnar! Hooray! But there are two more questions to go on this one. Who will be next to achieve such glory!?
Also of note, Zach wins special praise for being comment number 666 on my blog! Way to go champ! And here I thought Brandon would be the one to achieve this honor….who knew Zach was more evil than Brandon? lol
